US fleet Werner Enterprises has been honoured with a SmartWay Excellence Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Werner was one of 55 companies to receive the EPA distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3000+ partners. The Excellence Awardees were honoured at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual conference held in Denver, Colorado.
“EPA is pleased to recognise the 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award recipients. I commend Werner Enterprises for its superior environmental performance and leadership in advancing freight sector efficiency,” said Gina McCarthy, EPA administrator. “Their commitment is helping lead the freight industry to a more sustainable future.”
According to a company statement, Werner is committed to controlling excessive fuel consumption and pollutants through several tactics, including installing diesel-fired heating systems to reduce truck idle time, utilising aerodynamic trucks, equipping trailers with trailer skirts, using tyre inflation systems and implementing the newest diesel technology.
“Werner strives to lead by example in the transportation industry, and this includes doing our part to protect the environment for generations to come,” said Derek Leathers, President and COO of Werner Enterprises (pictured). “We are honoured our efforts are being recognized and proud to be a SmartWay partner.”
