UK Logistics firm Downton has purchased 50 new trucks and 60 new curtain-siders in a series of deals worth in excess of £4.5 million (€5.6 million) in order to meet a recent increase in demand.
The curtain-siders, built by English company Tiger Trailers, boast an ‘over chassis beam’ floor and a load restraint system that is suited to the transportation of kegs, bottles and paper reels; designed to support Downton’s operations in the magazine distribution and alcoholic drinks sectors.
According to Downton, the new prime movers are all Euro VI models, including 30 MAN TGX 26.480 6x2s, and 20 DAF FTG XFs. According to Downton, the units are being delivered this month and will immediately go into service in the Downton national fleet.
“Like many operators we’ve had to run lean during the recession, but demand has recently taken off at a surprising and remarkable rate. We are investing in this new fleet capacity to take advantage of these opportunities,” said Downton Finance Director, Richard Downton.
