Transport and logistics company, Transmec Group, has acquired a well-established intermodal operator between Europe and North Africa.
Transmec has acquired Servizio Trasporti Combinati (S.T.C.) from Bertacchi Renato, a business that was founded in Genoa, Italy, in 1981 with a vision to connect Europe to North Africa through intermodal land-sea transport solutions. Under the leadership of his sons Fabrizio and Lorenzo Bertacchi, S.T.C progressively expanded into Tunisia, Morocco and France.
Today, with in-depth knowledge of the North African market and a fleet of approximately 550 semi-trailers including curtainsiders, box trailers, flatbeds and reefers, S.T.C. provides full load and groupage transport services.
This is complemented by logistics and warehousing solutions for optimal supply chain management, as well as customs and insurance assistance that simplify import-export processes, offering comprehensive and integrated support.
With this acquisition, Transmec Group now boasts an even more extensive and efficient network connecting Europe, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, and Algeria with unprecedented reach. The merging of forces brings together a fleet of over 1,500 vehicles dedicated to these markets.

By combining experience and vision, Transmec is charting new routes and unlocking growth opportunities for its customers on both shores of the Mediterranean.
“Africa is rapidly emerging as a continent of enormous potential,” said Transmec Group CEO, Danilo Montecchi.
“The Mattei Plan is driving growth in key sectors such as automotive, textiles, and biomedical. In this dynamic environment, having integrated logistics solutions is essential to support companies on their expansion journey.
“This acquisition opens a new chapter of collaboration and development, allowing us to further consolidate our position as a strategic partner in North Africa.
“By merging S.T.C.’s expertise with our global network, we can now offer more efficient connections, supporting international trade operators.
“Thanks to this integration, our services become even more competitive, providing tailored solutions to support business growth on both sides of the Mediterranean.”
In other news, freight forwarding service, Transmec Romania, was recently recognised for its contribution to driving growth and prosperity in Bihor.
