TIP Group has taken on the massive task of braking system compliance by upgrading a fleet of 20,000 trailers.
The company is ensuring all of its long-term hire trailers are fitted with its Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System or EBPMS , BrakePlus, so as to comply with new UK Government regulations.
The proactive step will ensure the trailers are ‘compliant’ with the new guidelines set out by the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), effective April 2025.
Under the new guidelines, trailers must either undergo at least four laden roller brake tests, albeit with some exemptions applicable, or utilise an EBPMS in order to demonstrate continuous brake performance monitoring.
With such a mammoth project, TIP has been undertaking the upgrades over the last 24 months. As a result, the implementation of BrakePlus will assist fleet operator customers to stay ‘ahead-of-the-curve’ while enhancing road safety.
“Our goal is to make compliance as seamless as possible for our customers while enhancing road safety,” said TIP Fleet & Engineering Director, Mark Carlin.
“By implementing EBPMS, TIP is ensuring that its customers not only meet the guidelines, but also benefit from the obvious operational efficiencies and cost savings that the technology enables.”
The new BrakePlus offering builds on TIP’s established EBPMS system, launched in 2021, which provides operators with an alternative to performing regular roller brake tests in order to comply with the guidelines.
The new system avoids the need for trailers to visit a workshop at least four times a year solely for roller brake tests, saving time and costs.
The significant investment underscores TIP’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that promote safety, cost-saving efficiencies and regulatory compliance for its customers.
“Continuous monitoring of a trailer’s braking system, made possible by EBPMS, can only be a step forward in improving road safety and TIP has been an instrumental player in industry discussions and its adoption since the start,” said TIP Managing Director, Mike Furnival.
“With our proactive approach towards implementation of EBPMS, TIP is demonstrating a strong commitment to compliance and best practice in fleet management.”
In other news, TIP is committed to high quality training.
