US trailer specialist, Talbert Manufacturing, has introduced two new trailers at the American Towing Exposition held in in Baltimore, USA, in November.
The first new model was the three-axle 40-tonne low loader designed for the transport of excavators and other types of construction equipment, boasting a tare weight just over eight tonnes.
To accommodate a full-size excavator, Talbert chose a deck height of 22-inches (56 cm) and included a deck boom well. This recessed and plated section at the rear of the trailer is about six inches (15cm) deep to accommodate the bucket of an excavator. This also lowers the overall height of the boom to ensure the load will achieve the legal height limit. 
In addition, Talbert introduced thea 50-tonne version of its existing traveling axle model. The company designed the 51-foot (15.5m) traveling axle trailer to maximise lower deck length but still meet the 43-foot kingpin law prevalent in the US.
Just like every other trailer in the traveling axle range, the 50-tonne version can boast a six-degree load angle. “This gradual slope is ideal for the towing and recovery industry, as well as rental equipment and small to midsize construction equipment with low ground clearances, such as rollers and pavers,” according to Talbert.
