Schmitz Cargobull has expanded its dry freight transport portfolio with the launch of the S.BO Opensider, a side-opening box semi-trailer designed to deliver faster loading and unloading operations.
Introduced in June 2026, the new trailer is based on the manufacturer’s previous S.KO folding-wall semi-trailer and targets applications where rapid access to cargo, flexible loading processes and short turnaround times are critical.
Its fully opening side walls provide direct access to freight, making it particularly suitable for urban deliveries and sites where rear access is restricted. According to Schmitz Cargobull, the design can significantly reduce loading and unloading times while also minimising downtime at loading ramps. Occupational safety is also improved by reducing the need for operators to climb onto the trailer during loading activities.
The S.BO Opensider is available in two configurations: an EU variant designed for 4×2 prime movers with a 7,700mm wheelbase and a Nordic version for 6×2 prime movers with an 8,130mm wheelbase. Customers can specify side walls that open on one or both sides, depending on operational requirements.
Safety and cargo protection were key considerations during development. The trailer’s Ferroplast box body complies with DIN EN 12642 Code XL requirements and is designed to protect cargo from external influences during transport. The S.BO Opensider also meets EX/III specifications, allowing it to be used for the transport of explosive substances and ADR Class 1 goods, subject to the relevant certification requirements.
Schmitz Cargobull said the trailer can be tailored for a range of transport tasks through various equipment options, including load-securing systems, double-deck solutions and other application-specific features.
