Trailer builder, Schmitz Cargobull, has published its third voluntary sustainability report, using the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) for the first time.
The report highlights the company’s progress across climate change mitigation, resource management, circular economy, social responsibility and corporate governance.
Aligned with its Strategy 2030, Schmitz Cargobull is targeting a 90 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across all relevant Scopes by 2045, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Key achievements include a 70 per cent cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021-22, halving of mixed waste across all sites, and the installation of solar panels with 725 kWp output, with a further 1,500 kWp planned.

The OEM is also advancing low-emission products, including the all-electric S.KOe COOL refrigerated trailer and the S.CU d80 ePTO ready, designed for fully electric HGV operation.
Schmitz Cargobull COO and Head of Sustainability, Dr Günter Schweitzer, said the company is focused on measures that are both practical and impactful across the entire value chain, combining ecological responsibility with economic viability.
In related news, Shropshire-based family firm, Cadwallader, has taken a step into zero-emission refrigerated transport, adding a Schmitz Cargobull S.KOe COOL to its rental fleet.
The fully-electric semi-trailer complements the company’s existing conventionally powered refrigerated trailers and helps meet growing customer demand for sustainable solutions.

“Five years ago, fully-electric reefers were rare,” said Cadwallader Business Development Manager, Joe Cadwallader.
“Now, options like the S.KOe COOL make sense, but availability for hire remains limited.
“Adding electric capabilities ensures we stay competitive and environmentally responsible.”
The S.KOe COOL features a battery-powered refrigeration unit, electrified axle for energy recuperation and three operational modes – ECO, STANDARD, and SAFE – to optimise efficiency, protect cargo, and reduce costs.
Optional Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System enhances safety and legislative compliance.
Cadwallader, one of the UK’s largest refrigerated trailer rental operators, also offers sales, maintenance and annual testing from its Oswestry base.
