After entering into a Joint Venture with Schmitz Cargobull in 2012, a delegation of China’s Dongfeng Motor Company now toured the German OEM's Spanish satellite plant in Zaragoza.
According to Schmitz Cargobull, it is on track to develop from a leading European brand into a “global player”, with the visit from China reinforcing the company’s international ambitions.
“In all of the areas [the Chinese management team, ed.] visited – research, development, construction, logistics, manufacturing and testing and quality assurance – the guests witnessed a value chain focused on quality, customers and reliable processes,” Schmitz Cargobull commented.
A spokesperson added that the Zaragoza assembly plant would follow the same procedures and quality standards than those applied at Schmitz Cargobull’s main factory in Altenberge – pointing out just how serious the German company is taking the internationalisation process.
Reportedly, the first model to leave the new plant in Wuhan, China will not be a curtain-sider like the one built in Spain, but a grid mesh model based on a cold-formed steel chassis, which is made using the same technology as the new Genios range that just came out in Europe.
