Refrigerated transport specialist, Rob Gibbons Transport, said its new box body semi-trailer S.KO COOL from Schmitz Cargobull is 10 per cent more fuel efficient than other trailers in the fleet.
The business, based in Newport, UK, specified a mono-temp trailer with Schmitz Cargobull’s S.CU V2.0 cooling unit. It also features Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels, a pallet box with burgundy metallic paint matching the DAF 530 XG+ prime mover it is paired with.
“This is our first trailer with a Schmitz Cargobull cooling unit, and I’ve been amazed at how quiet it is compared to some of the third-party kit we have in the fleet,” said fleet owner, Rob Gibbons.
“It’s efficient too, averaging about 30 litres less diesel a week, which is a significant 10 per cent saving in comparison to the other units we are running.”
Traveling to France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, the trailer is covering around 3,000km a week with operational flexibility key. Typical goods moved are mainly for foodservice and the pharmaceutical industry and can require anything from minus 25 to plus 20 degrees Celsius depending on the load.
The S.KO COOL, as with all new Schmitz Cargobull trailers, comes with two years of TrailerConnect telematics as standard.
“We have some older Schmitz Cargobull trailers, but this is the first time we’ve had the TrailerConnect package,” said Gibbons.
“It works brilliantly and allows us to keep our customers updated too.”
The deal was facilitated by Geoff Ward, Regional Manager for the North West, Wales and the West Midlands at Schmitz Cargobull UK & Ireland.
“Geoff was awesome, and the process of ordering and specifying the trailer through to its production and collection was great,” said Gibbons.
“The trailer’s been a fantastic addition to the business.”
The new generation S.CU V2.0 cooling units lower fuel consumption due to the improved combination of diesel engine and generator. The intelligent partial load operation of the latest drive unit ensures that there is only minimal deviation from the cold storage temperature setpoint, combined with the most efficient use of resources.
Set up in 2001, Rob Gibbons Transport has grown to nine trucks specialising in cross-channel runs to Continental Europe moving temperature-controlled goods.
In other news, Schmitz Cargobull has invested in a Polish trailer builder.
