Finnish trailer manufacturer, Ekeri will boost its production with the launch of a new, high-tech paint shop.
The new facility in Kållby, in the western Finland region of Pedersöre, can accommodate transport units up to 24 metres in length, and will start production in June.
The inauguration of the paint shop is one of Ekeri’s most significant single investments to date and will include robotic painting.
It will facilitate surface treatment of up to 40 units per week.
Construction work for the paint shop began in September 2024, with a total investment of approximately four million euros.
“Previously, we painted up to 20 units per week. With the new paint shop, we can now double the capacity to 40 units, which represents a significant uplift in production”, said Ekeri production manager, Mattias Bergström.
The paint shop comprises a preparation station, a painting hall, and a drying hall.
During the painting and drying operations, vapours emitted by solvents are efficiently removed through a carbon filter to ensure that emissions to the surrounding environment are reduced.
The painting process is further streamlined with the implementation of robots, meaning paint consumption can be reduced by 20–30 per cent.
However, the facility still requires manual operation in more advanced painting work and quality control procedures.
With the paint shop’s ability to cater for transport units up to 24 metres in length, Ekeri is addressing industry developments that indicate longer vehicle combinations will reduce both costs and emissions.
At present, the longest transport units currently manufactured by Ekeri are 16 metres.
