The Open Logistics Foundation and Logistics in Wallonia have agreed to advance cross-border cooperation and strengthen the development of open, interoperable digital solutions across Europe.
Logistics in Wallonia operates as an innovation cluster uniting companies, universities, research bodies, experts and institutions to develop a shared strategic direction for the region’s logistics industry through collaborative and financed innovation projects.
The two organisations are already longstanding collaborators via the European technology platform ETP ALICE, where they contribute to Europe-wide research and innovation strategies in logistics and supply chain management.
For the Open Logistics Foundation, the agreement provides a direct pathway into Belgium’s SME-driven logistics market. By connecting with the cluster’s regional network, small and medium-sized companies will gain greater access to open source, interoperable digital tools developed by the Foundation.
These include the Foundation’s eCMR solution, a uniform, legally compliant and freely available digital standard for consignment notes. With the Benelux eCMR pilot now extended to 2027, interest in practical, cross-border digitalisation initiatives continues to grow.
“With Logistics in Wallonia, we are gaining a strong partner who shares our vision to make logistics more sustainable and efficient through open standards and collaborative development,” said Open Logistics Foundation Managing Director, Andreas Nettsträter.
He added that the partnership will help accelerate the use of open standards among Belgian SMEs.
Logistics in Wallonia Managing Director, Bernard Piette, said the cooperation aligns closely with the cluster’s mission.
“The Open Logistics Foundation stands for openness, collaboration and practical solutions,” he said.
“Our network is mainly made of SMEs and we all know that transport and logistics remain a highly fragmented business.
“This prevents companies from tackling future challenges and slows the adoption of new technologies.
“Through this cooperation, we can offer our members direct access to proven technologies and accelerate the adoption of common standards in Belgium.”
