Kuehne+Nagel and Mondadori Group have opened a new 40,000-square-metre fulfilment centre in San Giorgio Bigarello, Italy, creating the country’s largest logistics hub dedicated to educational publishing.
Developed and operated by Kuehne+Nagel, the facility consolidates logistics operations previously spread across three sites into a single centralised hub, supporting the distribution of educational and retail publishing products across Italy.
The site will handle deliveries to schools, educators, bookstores, e-commerce customers and direct-to-consumer channels, providing greater inventory visibility, improved omnichannel capabilities and increased operational flexibility.
The logistics hub has been designed to manage the highly seasonal demands of educational publishing, where large volumes of learning materials must be distributed within tight delivery windows ahead of the school year.
Kuehne+Nagel Executive Vice President Contract Logistics, Eduardo Razuck, said the project demonstrates the strategic role of logistics in supporting customer growth.
“By combining logistics expertise, technology and operational excellence, we have created a scalable platform that supports Mondadori’s continued growth,” he said.
“Beyond strengthening the regional economy and creating employment opportunities, we contribute to the future of learning for the next generations.”
Mondadori Group CEO, Antonio Porro, said the new facility enables closer integration of the company’s educational and retail publishing operations.
“Having a single highly specialised facility allows us to coordinate educational and retail publishing activities more effectively, strengthen the integration between physical and digital channels and improve service quality throughout the entire supply chain,” he said.
The fulfilment centre became fully operational in June 2026 following a phased transition designed to maintain uninterrupted service.
Sustainability and automation were central to the facility’s development. The LEED Gold-certified warehouse incorporates renewable energy systems, energy-efficient lighting, CO₂ emissions monitoring and sustainable packaging initiatives.
The project also showcases Kuehne+Nagel’s continued investment in contract logistics, technology and automation to support increasingly complex distribution networks and omnichannel supply chains.
