Trailer manufacturer, Krone, and Platform Science, formerly Trimble Transport & Logistics, have entered a partnership to launch a fully integrated trailer telematics solution.
The new platform will provide transport and logistics companies with a single, one-stop-shop application for tractors and trailers.
The new platform is intended to significantly reduce workload and promote cost and time savings, with truck and trailer operators not needing to switch between different portals, nor be concerned with duplicate invoices, or additional hardware.
The trailer telematics solution was unveiled at the Transport Logistic trade fair, held in Munich from 2-5 June.
With the introduction of this new Transport Management System, both companies aim for a long-term collaboration with a focus on comprehensive integration, fleet digitalisation and easy scalability for international fleet operators.
“Our goal is to integrate the tractor and trailer. With Krone, we’re now overcoming the final hurdle and making the deployment of a telematics solution for the entire semi-trailer easier than ever before,” said Platform Science’s Country Manager DACH & CEE, Lutz Siegert.
Krone’s Head of Telematics & Digital Services, Maximilian Birle, said: “Our goal is the seamlessly integrated trailer. With Platform Science, we’re creating a solution that’s ready for use immediately upon delivery and fully visible in the customer’s system – thus relieving the burden on IT departments and making our trailers significantly more valuable digitally.”
Transport and logistics companies operating the new system will be able to choose from three service packages.
A basic package offers GPS tracking and tracing (Track & Trace), while the premium package also includes data from the electronic braking system, or EBS, the tyre pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, and door sensors.
The premium “Cool” package also includes complete cold chain integration with temperature data and sensors.
Activation occurs automatically upon delivery of the trailer, with all data transferred directly to the Transport Management System and is visible in the Platform Science environment – without further setup, approval, or contract negotiations.
Transport and logistics companies using the system will also have a single point of contact for questions or concerns.
As Platform Science’s telematics solution is manufacturer-independent and open, the application is also suitable for large fleets with mixed vehicles.
Retrofitting older trailers and connecting solar units is also possible.
