Kögel Trailer GmbH has opened its state-of-the-art production facility for refrigerated vehicle panels at its headquarters in Burtenbach, Germany.
Alongside Bavaria’s Secretary of State for Finance and Regional Affairs, Martin Schöffel, Kögel owner Ulrich Humbaur and CEO, Christian Renners cut the ceremonial red ribbon at the milestone event earlier this month.
The new facility is a clear commitment by the company to Germany as a business location and to the future of temperature-controlled transportation.
The facility shows that, despite economic uncertainties, Kögel is investing in innovation and growth, with a clear goal of sustainable mobility for sensitive goods, such as food and pharmaceuticals.
The decision to set up the new production line in Burtenbach was deliberate, as it is seen by the company as the heart of Kögel.
Its established infrastructure, the central location and the know-how of the workforce make Burtenbach the ideal location for the company’s growth.
With this investment, Kögel is strengthening its market presence in Germany, as well as shortening delivery times of refrigerated vehicles to neighbouring markets.
The facility’s construction was supported by the investment program “Future Investments Vehicle Manufacturers and Supplier Industry” of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
Bavaria’s State Secretary for Finance and Regional Affairs, Martin Schöffel, praised the new plant as a clear commitment to progress, sustainability and responsibility.
“Economic success and climate protection are not mutually exclusive – they belong together,” said Schöffel.
“Production opens up a new market, strengthens the economy and secures jobs in the region.
“The logistics sector is the backbone of our economy and at the same time a key area for more climate protection.
“The new facility is a clear signal: We are moving towards climate-friendly and efficient logistics. I would like to thank you for this on behalf of the state government.”
Kögel’s new facility will feature the production of the company’s innovative answer for sustainable products.
Panels for the Kögel COOL LITESHELL, the foundation of the new, lightweight and robust refrigerated trailer, are being manufactured at the new plant.
Rather than using the usual steel top layer, Kögel uses lightweight materials, such as milled PU rigid foam blocks, glass fiber mats and TPU to construct the LITESHELL.
This results in more sustainable logistics, featuring significantly reduced unladen weight for the trailer, lower fuel consumption, more payload and noticeably lower CO2 emissions.
Kögel CEO, Christian Renners, said: “We are not just investing in machines, we are investing in the future of our customers, our region and our environment.
“The Kögel COOL LITESHELL is more than just a product … it is an expression of our attitude: we want to offer customers solutions that set standards in terms of quality, efficiency and sustainability.”
Kögel said the first trailers will be tested in practical settings, before the end of 2025.
