US company Hendrickson has updated its product portfolio to support the brand’s ambitious global growth strategy.
At the 2014 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Germany, the company showcased the new Zero Maintenance Damping (ZMD) system, a shock-less suspension system where robust chain down-stops replace the rebound limiter function traditionally performed by the shock absorber.
According to Hendrickson, ZMD air springs integrate the damping function traditionally performed by the shock within the air spring itself by exchanging pressurized air through channels interconnecting the bellows and piston of this patent-pending air spring. Unlike a shock absorber, whose damping capacity is finite and deteriorates with age, ZMD air springs are said to provide continuous damping at a consistent rate over the life of the air spring, effectively increasing trailer component life.
What’s more, the company also displayed the RTR (Ready To Roll) range of wheel ends and brakes, including the next generation HXL10TM, a trailer wheel-end to offer a 10-year warranty.
Also on show was the lightweight Intraax AANT model, an integrated trailer air suspension, axle and brake system designed to improve durability, enhance fuel economy and increase payload.
