South African trailer builder, GRW, is expanding its European presence following its latest strategic move.
GRW is acquiring Van Hool Industrial Vehicles, a Belgian family-owned coachbuilder and manufacturer of buses, coaches and industrial vehicles.
Van Hool employed approx. 4,100 people worldwide and has production facilities in Koningshooikt (Belgium) and Skopje (North Macedonia).
Committed to providing ‘world class products’ since its founding in 1996, GRW has consolidated its market presence in South Africa as well as Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, the UK, the Middle East and Australia.
In 2017/2018, Schmitz Cargobull acquired a stake in the GRW business.
“Acquiring a brand like Van Hool, renowned for its prominent brand presence and exceptional vehicle quality, was a pivotal step for GRW,” said GRW CEO, Gerhard van der Merwe.
“It aligns perfectly with our growth strategy and commitment to delivering excellence to our customers worldwide.
“Van Hool’s reputation for innovation and reliability complements our own values, allowing us to further enhance our product portfolio and reinforce our position as an industry leader. We are excited to integrate Van Hool’s expertise into our joint operations to enhance efficiency and streamline lean manufacturing processes.”
The Van Hool factory, according to GRW, will continue the production of stainless-steel road tankers, containers, gas tankers, cryogenic tankers and container chassis.
GRW said the integration of Van Hool’s knowledge and capabilities with its extensive resources positions the combined entity for continued success.
This is one of two acquisitions to ‘reset’ the Van Hool business.
In addition to GRW’s purchase, a second acquisition is in motion with Netherlands-based VDL Groep (coaches and buses).
