Auckland-based trailer builder, Fruehauf NZ, has commenced construction on a new 7,500m² purpose-built manufacturing facility in Palmerston North.
The new facility, in the southern sector of New Zealand’s North Island, is designed to support the company’s continued growth and meet the future demands of New Zealand’s road transport industry and will feature the following:
- Additional production lines to increase capacity.
- Advanced manufacturing technology.
- Two new 25-metre bake ovens.
- A fully enclosed internal sandblasting shop.
- Six drive-through repair bays.
- Enhanced staff amenities and improved workflow design.
- Solar power installation for the paint-shops.
- A strong focus on waste reduction.
- Enhanced overall sustainability performance.

Fruehauf NZ Managing Director, Jeff Mear, said the development reflects both the company’s growth and its commitment to innovation.
“After 55 years on our current site, it was clear we had outgrown the facility. It was no longer viable to keep pace with industry demand,” he said.
“We’re incredibly excited to see this project underway and anticipate completion before April 2027.”
Mear said the investment was a significant step in strengthening New Zealand manufacturing, while reinforcing Fruehauf’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and industry leadership.
