Schmitz Cargobull has adopted refrigerant R454A as standard across its S.CU modular refrigeration system.
The new S.CU dc90 unit, which succeeds the dc85, delivers up to 6.0 per cent higher cooling capacity and up to 10 per cent lower fuel consumption.
Designed to meet growing performance and environmental demands, the unit reflects Schmitz Cargobull’s proactive response to the EU’s tightening F-Gas Regulation which mandates a gradual reduction in high-CO₂ refrigerants such as R452A.
According to the OEM, R454A offers an 89 per cent lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared with R452A.
At the heart of the dc90 is a new hermetic two-stage reciprocating compressor, which improves cooling efficiency while lowering maintenance and repair costs. Reduced noise levels, particularly in partial-load operation, also enhance driver comfort.
The system continues to use the Hatz common-rail diesel engine with an extended speed range, compatible with CO₂-neutral HVO100 fuel (EN15940).
“With the S.CU dc90, we are offering our customers a future-proof solution that combines maximum cooling performance with maximum efficiency and sustainability,” said Jonathan Steckel, Head of Product Management at Cargobull Cool. “It’s both a technological advance and a clear statement of intent for sustainable temperature-controlled transport.”
In other news, Schmitz Cargobull is mourning the loss of owner, Dr. Heinz Schmitz, who passed away on 17 October 2025 at the age of 88.
