The Executive Board of the German Logistics Association (BVL) has appointed Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Thorsten Schmidt as Chairman of BVL’s Scientific Advisory Board.
His appointment was made at the Scientific Advisory Board meeting during the Transport Logistic 2025 trade fair in Munich.
Prof. Schmidt has held the professorship for Technical Logistics at the TU Dresden since 2008 and is President of the Scientific Society for Technical Logistics (WGTL).
He has been active on the BVL’s Scientific Advisory Board for many years, including on the editorial board of the magazine Logistics Research since 2013 and as host of the International Scientific Symposium on Logistics (ISSL) 2023 in Dresden.
“Logistics is a cross-cutting issue that connects all economic sectors and in which various disciplines interact. For this, we need intensive exchange – and clear positions,” said Prof. Schmidt.
“For me, the BVL is not only the only association that fully and objectively represents this breadth of expertise, but also an important platform for working constructively with representatives from science and industry on key issues, developing standards, and generating momentum.
“I would like to develop and formulate such momentum with the Scientific Advisory Board.”
BVL Chairman Kai Althoff congratulated Prof. Schmidt on his appointment and expressed his sincere gratitude to his predecessor, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Furmans, who headed the Scientific Advisory Board since 2017.
At its AGM, held on 2 June in conjunction with Transport Logistic 2025, the BVL also made the following appointments to the BVL board:
- Ralf Busche, Senior Vice President European Site Logistics Operations, BASF (previously a member of the BVL Advisory Board).
- Felix Fiege, Managing Partner FIEGE (previously a member of the BVL Advisory Board).
- Dr. Arne Flemming, Senior Vice President Corporate Supply Chain and Global Logistics Services, Bosch.
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alice Kirchheim , Professor, Technical University of Dortmund and Director, Fraunhofer IML.
- Matthias Magnor , Chairman of the Board of Management, BLG Logistics.
Founded in 1978, the German Logistics Association (BVL) is a non-profit, neutral, and predominantly volunteer organisation, with approximately 10,000 members.
It is a platform for logistics managers in industry, trade, and services, as well as for researchers and students.
