The EU market for new commercial vehicles expanded for the fourteenth consecutive month in October, according to European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
While overall demand increased by 10.8 per cent, totalling 176,913 units, the struggling heavy-duty segment finally picked up pace too, reporting a 12.9 per cent increase in registrations.
While France (-19.1 per cent) is facing a downturn, Italy (+12.1 per cent), Germany (+15.4 per cent), Spain (+48.1 per cent) and the UK (+61.9 per cent) posted double-digit growth.
Over ten months, the region registered more vehicles (+4.3 per cent) than in the same period last year and counted 175,701 new heavy trucks.
Looking at the major markets the results were diverse. France (-9.8 per cent) and the UK (-10 per cent) performed less well than in the first ten months of 2013, while the Italian (+12.5 per cent), German (+14.7 per cent) and especially Spanish (+31.7 per cent) markets expanded.
