DP World has secured a five-year concession extension to continue operating the B5 container berth at Thailand’s Laem Chabang Port, reinforcing the country’s growing role in intra-Asian trade and regional supply chains.
The extension, granted by the Port Authority of Thailand, will run from May 2026 to April 2031 through DP World’s joint venture, Laem Chabang International Terminal Co., Ltd. (LCIT).
LCIT operates the B5 and C3 berths at Laem Chabang, Thailand’s largest container port and principal deep-sea trade gateway. The terminals can accommodate up to four vessels simultaneously across 900 metres of berth length and include 4,420 square metres of on-dock container freight station facilities.
In 2025, LCIT handled a record 1.936 million TEUs, marking its highest annual throughput to date as intra-Asian trade volumes continued to grow.
DP World CEO and Managing Director Asia Pacific, Glen Hilton, said the extension would provide continuity for customers navigating increasingly complex supply chains.
“This concession extension at Laem Chabang Port ensures continuity and service stability for our customers at a time when supply chains face increasing pressure and complexity,” he said.
“As Thailand strengthens its position as a regional trade hub, this extension allows us to continue investing in capacity, efficiency and sustainable operations.”
DP World said the agreement would support further investment in terminal efficiency and sustainability initiatives. In 2025, LCIT introduced five electric internal transfer vehicles, reducing emissions by approximately 60 per cent compared to diesel alternatives while improving vessel handling performance.
Additional upgrades planned for 2026 include more electric internal transfer vehicles, electric reach stackers and an electric empty container handler.
Beyond port operations, DP World continues to expand its integrated logistics network across Thailand through cross-border trucking, freight forwarding and landside logistics services. The company recently launched a rail-connected inland container yard in Khon Kaen with a dedicated rail shuttle linking exporters to Laem Chabang Port three times a week.
