Great Britain’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) has reached a significant milestone with construction plant hire company Rawley Plant becoming its 100th member. LCRS members now operate over 74,000 commercial vehicles between them.
The LCRS, which is managed by the UK Freight Transport Association, demonstrates the efforts of industry to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to national greenhouse gas reduction targets.
“Rawley Plant is pleased to become the 100th member of the LCRS at a time when the drive to monitor and reduce carbon emissions has never been so important,” said Howard Rawley, Managing Director of Rawley Plant. “Environmental concerns are important to us and, despite our small size, we feel that we have a part to play.”
The scheme’s recent report – the Logistics Carbon Review 2014 – shows that scheme members have collectively made good progress in reducing carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions between 2005 and 2012.
The average tonnes of CO2e per LCRS member has reduced by 3.4 per cent between 2011 and 2012. Projecting the reduction in emissions from 2010 also shows that the scheme is on track to meet its carbon reduction target in 2014 – one year earlier than anticipated.
