Brazil’s truck trailer market delivered mixed results in April as registrations in the trailer and semi-trailer segment declined while body-on-chassis products recorded growth.
According to the Brazilian truck trailer industry association, ANFIR, the trailer and semi-trailer sector registered 5,535 units in April, down from 6,390 units in March.
The Light segment, which covers body-on-chassis products, recorded 6,232 units sold in April compared to 5,821 units in the previous month.
“The decline in the trailer and semi-trailer segment may be a sign that logistics operators are cautious about investing their resources in the acquisition of trailers and semi-trailers, probably due to doubts about the direction of the economy,” said ANFIR President, José Carlos Spricigo.
“The performance of the Light segment reflects consumption and urban logistics operations,” he said.
Spricigo also pointed to the number of working days in April as a contributing factor to the softer sales performance. April had 20 working days compared to 22 in March.
“This difference represents fewer deals made, which affects the industry’s performance during the period,” he said.
ANFIR welcomed the renewal of the Move Brasil program, which supports the replacement of trucks, buses and road transport equipment for freight and passenger operators, cooperatives and independent truck drivers.
“The inclusion of truck trailer is an important measure in favor of the industry and the continuous improvement of safety in road freight transport,” said Spricigo.
The renewed program will make approximately €3.3 billion available to the market, more than double the approximately €1.6 billion allocated during the first phase.
Despite the April growth in the Light segment, the overall performance of Brazil’s truck trailer industry remains behind last year’s levels.
From January to April 2026, the sector sold 42,608 products, compared to 48,004 units during the same period in 2025, representing an 11.24 per cent decline.
The trailer and semi-trailer category recorded 21,267 units sold in the first four months of 2026, down 12.81 per cent from the 24,391 units sold during the corresponding period last year.
The Light segment also declined year-on-year, falling 9.62 per cent with 21,341 units sold compared to 23,613 units in the first four months of 2025.
In March, monthly trailer sales in Brazil had risen.
