BPW Bergische Achsen KG has marked the construction of a new production hall on the factory premises in Wiehl, central-west Germany, with a ground-breaking ceremony.
Together with the developer, the architectural firm, the Wiehl mayor and the project managers, the transition from the planning to the implementation phase of the project has now been completed.
With an investment of more than €25 million, BPW is underlining its commitment to industrial value creation at its headquarters.
Milestone in the optimisation of production processes
On a usable area of around 7,000 square metres, existing production and logistics structures will be efficiently bundled and future-proof.
The new hall will be specifically designed for the installation of BPW trailer disc brakes, which are used millions of times around the world and help to transport goods safely and efficiently.
Sustainable and efficient energy supply
The new production hall, which is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2027, includes modern production areas and an efficient energy supply. Among the building’s features, about 30 percent of the roof areas will be equipped with photovoltaic systems, which will make an important contribution to environmentally friendly energy generation at the site.
“With the largest modernisation measure in the company’s recent history, we are strengthening our headquarters in Wiehl in the long term and creating prospects for the future,” said BPW Bergische Achsen KG personally liable managing partner, Achim Kotz.
“The project is a clear commitment to Germany as a business location.”
The mayor of Wiehl, Ulrich Stücker, also underlined the importance of the construction project.
“I am very pleased that this forward-looking construction project will secure the production site in Wiehl in the long term. This will not only strengthen the local economy, but also create a long-term perspective for our city and its citizens,” he said.
BPW Bergische Achsen KG is the parent company of the BPW Group. With around 1,360 employees, including around 100 trainees, the family-owned company has been developing and producing complete chassis systems for truck trailers and semi-trailers at its headquarters in Wiehl since 1898.
