Asda has added 55 temperature-controlled moving-deck double deck trailers from Tiger Trailers following successful trials last year, marking the manufacturer’s first order for its dual-temperature refrigerated variant.

The step-frame trailers are designed to improve flexibility across the supermarket’s network, enabling the transport of both chilled and frozen goods in a single unit. They offer capacity for up to 43 pallets or 72 cages while supporting safer load stability, fewer journeys and lower running costs.

Chris Hall, Vice President Asda Logistics Services, said the collaboration reflects ongoing confidence in the manufacturer.

“We’re very pleased with these new dual-temperature moving double deck trailers from Tiger,” he said.

“This is Asda’s third year collaborating with the manufacturer and from our team having regularly visited Tiger’s factory it’s always been clear to see their ongoing innovation, flexibility, and attention to detail, along with impressive support.”

The trailers feature a lower deck height of 1,940mm and an upper deck height of 1,860mm to optimise airflow and clearance. A three-quarter-length, 10-tonne-rated lifting deck is powered by Tiger’s in-house four-ram hydraulic system, with controls accessible from ground and bay level to support safer operation.

Carrier HE19 refrigeration units with MHS2200 single-discharge evaporators enable dual-temperature performance. The specification also includes deep-insulated floor slabs, alloy flooring for materials handling equipment, a temperature-retaining rear shutter and reinforced protection features.

Additional systems include tyre pressure and electronic brake performance monitoring, a safe parking valve and ground-level sliding coupling to improve operational safety and efficiency.

Darren Holland, Sales Director at Tiger Trailers, said the latest delivery builds on a strong partnership.

“Asda is an integral part of Tiger’s customer base and it’s exciting to have worked closely with them on their latest refrigerated double deck trailers, which are the pinnacle of what we currently offer as a manufacturer,” he said. “We’re proud that each generation of trailers we supply Asda with incrementally raise the bar when it comes to design, engineering, safety and sustainability.”

The new units join 485 trailers already supplied by Tiger Trailers, including ambient double decks and urban single-deck refrigerated models, as the retailer continues to modernise its fleet.

In other news, SSAB recently reported improved earnings on strong advanced steel demand.
