Cairo sends humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip

A total of 305 trucks carrying 6,000 tonnes of essential goods departed Cairo en route to the Gaza Strip last Sunday.

Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouly, gave the green light for the convoy to move towards the Egyptian border with Palestine.

The trucks, according to Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), are loaded with medical supplies, equipment, medicine, large quantities of canned food, bottled water, juices, clothing, blankets, tents, carpets, milk, baby formula, nappies for both children and seniors, disinfectants and personal care items.

Titled ‘Sharing for Humanity’, the convoy also includes 11 ambulances funded by Indonesia and Malaysia, Sahar Nasr, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Executive Director of the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House told media on the sidelines of the event.

The mission was organised by the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, the Egyptian Food Bank, Long Live Egypt, and various Islamic charity organisations.

This is reported to mark the 10th convoy organised solely by the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House.

The trucks should enter to the Palestinian side through Karam Abu Salem and Al Owja border crossings for inspection from the Israel forces before delivering the aid to the Palestinian side.

Meanwhile, another convoy of 260 trucks entered on Sunday to the Gaza Strip through Karam Abu Salem and Al Owja, Al Qahera news channel reported.

“Since the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into force on 19 January 2025, humanitarian relief efforts continue to flow into the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, as relief convoys from Egypt, the Arab world, and international relief organisations continue to provide the necessary support to citizens in Gaza who are suffering from the repercussions of the war, the blockade, and the difficult conditions they are living in,” said SIS.

“Since the beginning of the flow of aid, the Rafah crossing has witnessed active movement, as shipments of basic food supplies, medicine, blankets, and medical equipment were prepared for hospitals in Gaza. This aid is part of the ongoing efforts to provide urgent humanitarian support to the people of the Strip, who are suffering from a severe shortage of these basic needs.

“Officials at the crossing confirmed that loading and unloading operations are taking place regularly to speed up the delivery of aid to those in need in a timely manner. Egypt continues to provide significant support through the Rafah crossing, and other shipments will arrive in succession in the coming days.”
