Brianza Plastica’s research and development efforts have resulted in the impressive creation of an entire range of grp flat laminates that are fire resistant. In the last few years, the demand of products compliant with the various worldwide fire rating norms in the construction industry has sky-rocketed, but the transportation industry is also in need of this quality material.
The Italian company’s presence in the sheet and roll flat laminate market began in the early 2000s, but with the development of its R&D laboratory, Brianza Plastica has been able to address new market requirements by researching, analysing and evolving its production, developing the R118 and B476 range of grp flat laminates.
Those products maintain all the main properties of its well-known Elyplan range, but with an added value – the flame-retardant requirements of the automotive, building and new e-mobility markets.
The products
Compliant with the UNECE R118, annexes 6,7 and 8, Elyplan Fire Performance R118 is a range of grp products and are compliant with the British Standard Norm BS 476 part 7, which regulates the fire test on building materials and structures. The laminates are appropriate for the construction of stables or small prefabricated houses.
The grp fire performance grp laminates can also be used on vehicles such as buses, private or public transport, as well as commercial vehicles, attached either horizontally or vertically.
Trucks often need to transport hazardous materials such as explosives, ammunition or fireworks, which means they require fire-resistant grp sandwich panels.
Due to the increasing demand of the market, Brianza Plastica’s Elyplan fire perf range obtained two important European certificates in the fire-resistant norms’ framework: D-s2, d0 and B-s1, d0. Elyplan flat laminates are available in a thickness of 1.5 mm and 2.00 mm.
The applications
Both Elycold and Elyplan have a variety of specific attributes. Their superior quality, lightness, durability, aesthetic appeal and range of finishes have all contributed to their wide-scale use.
The range of flat laminates manufactured for the transportation sector stands out for its extreme durability, ease of repair, resistance to atmospheric agents and UV rays, thanks to the gelcoat protection, and low coefficient of thermal expansion.
The laminates range in thickness from 0.8 to 4.0 mm, are characterised by the presence or absence of a reinforcement mat, the option of customising the colour and the choice between a matt or glossy finish.
They are suitable for a multiplicity of applications, whether it is temperature-controlled, commercial and recreational vehicles, till tank containers or special applications like mobile houses and prefabricated doors. They provide a washable surface and have a high resistance to corrosive elements present in the environment.
From 17-24 September, Brianza Plastica will be attending IAA Transportation 2024 and will be located in Hall 27, Stand A22.
The manufacturing
Today, Brianza Plastica produces flat laminates using two production technologies –continuous hot laminating and discontinuous cold laminating. All the products are entirely made in Italy, within the company’s five production sites, and four of the five of manufacturing plants are dedicated to the production of fibreglass laminates.
Brianza Plastica rigorously prioritises safety issues, ensuring care for the environment and compliance with current regulations on environmental hygiene. It is with this mindset that it has installed powerful air recirculation systems in all its manufacturing plants where the production of fibreglass laminates takes place. They purify the air in the indoor production halls, channelling exhaust air into modern abatement plants. The heat recovered is partly reused to power the plant itself and generate hot water for heating.
