ASDA takes on 167 new trailers

UK supermarket chain, ASDA, has begun receiving the first of its large order of vehicles manufactured by Tiger Trailers.

The full delivery consists of 147 tri-axle box van moving deck double decks for UK operation, and 20 for the retailer’s Northern Ireland ferry-use operations. The trailer solution provides up to a 44-pallet carrying capacity, and incorporates a ¾ length moving deck for versatility, powered by a 4-ram hydraulic system.

“We have collaborated with the Tiger team individuals in previous companies, but this order is the first time that we have worked with them directly at Tiger,” said ASDA Fleet Procurement Manager, Peter Hey. “Engagement with the Tiger team was excellent from the outset, including a number of visitors to their factory, and we are extremely happy with the trailers that they have produced.”

ASDA’s new double deck trailers have been designed for transporting both cages and UK pallets. A ferry trestle support is built into the neck area for Asda’s RoRo operations, while air suspension and a roll stability program enhance cargo integrity. The controls for the moving deck are positioned to enable operation from both ground level and from store loading bays.

“From the initial on-site meetings to view their operations, to sharing the 3D model of their precise trailer at the factory and finally presenting the trailer in our showroom to the Asda team, we are really happy with the final product,” said Tiger Trailers Sales Director, Darren Holland.

In other news,  Manac have collaborated with technology developer, ZF Group, to develop a new trailer telematics solution.
