US army orders 557 low loaders

Netherlands-based trailer builder, Broshuis, has received an order for 557 Medium Equipment Trailers (METs) for the US Department of Defence.

The order is for 2+4 PL2 pendulum axle dolly low loader combinations for transporting military equipment that will be delivered between 2026 and 2031. The contract award has a total value of $341,2 million. Broshuis will again execute this contract in collaboration with its US partner Oshkosh Defense LLC.

“We are very proud to have also been awarded with the third major order from the US Army,” said Pieter-Bas Broshuis, owner and CEO of Broshuis.

“This gives us the honour of supplying all EHETs and the METs.

“In addition, this order, together with the previously obtained orders, brings a lot of certainty to the company, and thus to our employees and our customers.”

The order includes the delivery of 2+4-axle PL2 pendulum axle dolly low loader combinations.

Initial discussions for this order began back in 2018, after which an extensive commercial tender process began, as well as the competitive testing process.

Broshuis’ proposal emerged as the best in terms of technology, logistics and quality. Delivery of the METs project will start gradually and is only expected to be delivered in large numbers from 2026 to 2031.

The order follows the orders received in 2019 and 2022 respectively for 170 and 466 Enhanced Heavy Equipment Trailers (EHETs), the M1302. The first 170 trailers are already operational. The second order of 8-axle PL2 semi low loaders are expected to be delivered up to 2027.

This brings the US Army’s total heavy transport equipment requirement to 1,199 trailers, including delivered prototype trailers. This totals 8,472 pendulum axle lines (16,944 axles). At its peak, Broshuis will produce, 7 pendulum axle lines per day for US Army. The US Army is choosing 100 per cent Broshuis for its heavy haulage operations.

In other news, equipment specialist, JOST, has established its second production plant in India which is located near Chennai.
