The future of AI in transport: BPW

Efficiency and safety through Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be a hot topic of conversation at this year’s Transport Logistic event in Munich, with BPW sharing its latest solutions.

The Germany-based BPW group of companies – which develops and produces complete running gear systems for truck trailers and semi-trailers – will present details of a new generation of running gear at the trade fair next month.

The running gear is the basis for the intelligent trailer of the future, according to BPW, which can sense the condition of all relevant components, predict their conditions, organise maintenance appointments and order spare parts.

BPW will also discuss the issues surrounding poorly secured cargo and accident prevention, introducing its iGurt load securing system. A hand-held sensor, the iGurt measures the pre-tensioning force during lashing and driving, displaying it on a smartphone and allowing correct load securing to be monitored and documented in real time.

Finally, the company will unveil its two new solutions aimed at helping transport reduce carbon emissions. The first, an electrically driven axle called eTransport, has been developed specifically for inner-city transport. The second, ePower axle, generates energy during driving via two generators that can be used to operate hybrid or fully electric refrigeration units, saving up to 4,000 litres of diesel per year.

BPW will be presenting at Hall A6 at Transport Logistic which is running from 9-12 May.

In other news, Thore Bakker – General Manager Trailer Solutions & Mobility Services at BPW Bergische Achsen KG reflected on last year’s IAA Transportation event.
