WP Holding announces acquisition

Germany-based transport and logistics provider, WP Holding, has announced the acquisition of freight forwarder, Hansel and Gretel, effective 1 October 2022.

The change of ownership was due to the short-term withdrawal of Hansel and Gretel’s long-standing owner, Frank Goy, for health reasons.

“It was very important to me to achieve a good solution for my employees,” said Goy.

“I am grateful to WP for finding a perspective for my employees and can now enjoy my retirement.”

WP Managing Director, Doreen Paesold-Runge, assured that nothing will change for the customers of Hansel and Gretel, as an agreement was reached in advance to continue the business under WP in the future.

“WP Spedition is always looking for qualified personnel, so the increase of 15 new colleagues is very convenient for us,” he said.

“It fills us with pride that we were able to provide help quickly and easily in this extraordinary situation so that no further jobs are lost in western Saxony.”

In August, the head of the Saxon State Chancellery and Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Media, Oliver Schenk, visited the Zwickau-based logistics service provider, WP Holding.

The Minister of State was accompanied by Jan Löffler, Member of the Zwickau State Parliament.

Minister of State Schenk’s visit was part of his tour of medium-sized companies in Saxony to learn more about their goals and challenges.

Schenk agreed with the management of WP Holding that the importance of Saxony as a supra-regional economic region must be emphasised more.

“The key to further economic development in Saxony lies in increased cooperation with our Polish and Czech neighbours,” said Schenk.

Other topics discussed included the recruitment of young people in the logistics sector, improved and easier integration of refugees into the labor market, the new version of the European Battery Ordinance as well as opportunities and challenges of the German and European funding guidelines.

“WP has been deeply rooted in the industrial state of Saxony for many years, but has always kept an eye on the state borders and therefore the exchange with the state government is particularly important to us,” said Doreen Paesold-Runge, Managing Director of WP Holding.

“We are very pleased about the visit of the Minister of State and the further exchange, for which we would also like to welcome Prime Minister Kretschmer,” said WP Holding Managing Director, Heiko Nowak.
