GRW to run a Schmitz Cargobull plant

Silo and tanker manufacturer, GRW, is taking over a Schmitz Cargobull production facility, effective July 2022.

The facility in Toddin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, produces motor vehicle superstructures which will continue under GRW. Also, GRW Europe manufactures silo and tanker trailers at this site.

Schmitz Cargobull holds a 40 per cent state in GRW Holdings and with this development the two companies strengthen their cooperation.

GRW was founded in 1996 in Worcester, South Africa. Schmitz Cargobull supplies vehicle components to GRW and has held a stake in the company since the end of 2017.

GRW has been selling silo and tank trailers to the European market for several years. In order to strengthen GRW’s European market presence, the company took over the Schmitz Cargobull production site in Toddin to manufacture and assemble tankers for Europe, with a planned production of more than 100 vehicles in the current year 2022.

“With the production site in Germany, we are strengthening the GRW brand and sending a clear signal as to our commitment in Europe,” said GRW Europe CEO, Gerhard van der Merwe, and GRW Europe Managing Director, Dirk Nuxoll.

“We can react faster to fulfil the specific wishes of our customers and, with Schmitz Cargobull as a partner, further expand our range of products and services.”

The GRW silo and tank trailers will be equipped with the TrailerConnect telematics system and will in future be fitted with the Schmitz Cargobull MODULOS running gear and ROTOS axles. GRW is also available as a service partner for both its own and Schmitz Cargobull vehicles for repair and maintenance.

In other news, Schmitz Cargobull has revealed what it is showcasing at this year’s IAA Transportation.
