Contract logistics provider, DHL Supply Chain, is launching three new transport hubs to provide final-mile delivery in under-serviced areas outside Auckland.
The news follows DHL’s recent launch of two new facilities in Auckland and Christchurch, which are serving the healthcare and consumer electronics sectors.
Located in Whangarei, Tauranga and Hastings, the new hubs are designed to service customers across all sectors that require a high service in standard deliveries, including consumer goods, life sciences, healthcare, engineering and IT sectors.
DHL Managing Director, Matt Casbolt, said the company is excited to launch the new transport hubs due to the ongoing global supply chain disruptions over the last two years.
“Over the past 24 months we’ve seen an incredible amount of supply chain disruptions around the world, many of which have made front page news,” he said.
“By investing in regional areas with close proximity to ports and transport infrastructure, we will be enhancing the resilience of supply chains in New Zealand.”
The facilities will be run by DHL personnel to reduce the use of third-party contractors and are expected to enhance supply chains in regional areas of New Zealand’s North Island, while ensuring reliable delivery to end recipients.
As part of this investment, DHL will commission 15 new vehicles, with a plan to replace existing vehicles with new DHL green vehicles towards the end of their life.
According to the company, DHL is on track to eliminate all logistics-related emissions across its global network, as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability.
