SAF-Holland scores telematics accolade

Equipment specialist, SAF-Holland, has won an award for its trailer management system.

Trailermaster won second place in the German Telematik Award 2022 in the ‘trailer/swap body’ category. The application from the British SAF-Holland subsidiary, Axscend, links components, makes processes digital and automates the communication between trailer, driver and fleet operator.

“This is a very special award for us,” said SAF-Holland Vice President Group Digital & Innovation, Thomas Piroth.

“We are very pleased and see it as a validation of our commitment to the increasing digitalisation of fleets.

“To keep increasing the added value of our Trailermaster for the effectiveness of fleets, we are continuously driving the development of our telematics system.”

Trailermaster allows fleet managers to coordinate their vehicles in a cost-effective manner and can help avoid significant downtime. The maintenance planner feature assists workshops with centralising service work, while the telematics data ensures demand-based optimisation of processes.

This technology also has a web portal which integrates all fleet units in one system regardless of the installed telematics. It also processes the synchronised movement and vehicle data in a clearly structured format. A haulage company, for instance, can view the status of its entire fleet at a glance and can document and optimise trailer and transport processes.

The Driver app is an important component of the Trailermaster and supports drivers during their everyday work: They can use a checklist to complete their departure checks and can store defects and required repairs directly in the system. In special situations, such as in the event of a breakdown, the Driver app issues incident management instructions and forwards damage reports.

The German Telematik Award is based on a three-stage evaluation process: The comprehensive questionnaire for each of the ten categories is followed by the hands-on evaluation during a test run, carried out by a panel of judges under the scientific lead of Professor Heinz-Leo Dudek from the Cooperative Education University Ravensburg (DHBW, Friedrichshafen Campus). In the last stage, users and reference customers are consulted and the product benefits are highlighted once again.
