Toll to operate in Port of Los Angeles

Toll Group has been approved by the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Commission to manage its transport and logistics operations in Wilmington, California.

The property, an 85-acre yard, located adjacent to the largest port in the US – and 18th largest in the world – includes 600,000 square feet of warehouse space and prime open land for harbour trucking operations. This covers trucking and trans-load operations for approximately 9.5 million containers.

Subject to the finalisation by the Los Angeles City Council, Toll Group will commence managing the site immediately, and is the first change in operator at the port in 50 years.

“Toll Group has been managing warehousing and international freight forwarding work for a number of retail and consumer customers in the US,” said Robert Charles, Head of Toll’s Global Logistics business in the US.

“This new agreement is great news for our customers since we can now manage our customer’s products within the port, all the way to the retail outlets, ensuring the service quality from end to end.

“We are proud that our commitment to fair employment conditions, as well as our strong operational capabilities, will support LA Port and all stakeholders in this next chapter of growth. We are committed to working with existing employees to find ongoing employment opportunities and ensure that customers will have a seamless transition during this period,” he said.

Toll Group has been steadily increasing market share in the US over the past year and has plans to further invest in the US business to support this new opportunity. Toll plans to invest $1 million USD (approx. €;912,503) to modernise the facility and bring over 300 jobs back to the facility.
