The Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) in Germany expects a steady increase in freight traffic to continue until 2021 despite a predicted slowdown in economic growth.
This year, BAG predicts a 0.9 per cent rise in freight volumes and 1.2 per cent growth in transport services.
Freight volumes are projected by BAG to grow in 2020 (+1.7 per cent) and 2021 (+1.3 per cent).
Average increases in road haulage and intermodal traffic are due to be offset by moderate developments of cargo volumes in other segments such as inland shipping, air freight and rail freight.
The forecast report was prepared jointly by Intraplan Consult GmbH and the Federal Office for Freight Traffic.
