Kässbohrer is innovating its intermodal portfolio

German OEM, Kässbohrer, engineers trailing equipment that provides intermodal businesses with operational flexibility while also reducing industry’s carbon footprint.

Accounting for 11 per cent of Europe’s goods transportation, which is expected to grow by an average of four per cent till 2020, intermodal transport is where Kässbohrer is proud to meet the needs of its customers with a complete intermodal product range.

Kässbohrer supports its customers with innovation for operational ease and cost efficiency with its multifunctional container chassis K.SHG AVMH (Trailer Innovation 2019 Award winner in the chassis category), the ‘lightest’ swap body on the market, K.SWAU, and ‘robust’ curtainsiders.

Kässbohrer’s gooseneck light container chassis K.SHG L is engineered to handle both containers and swap bodies ranging from C45 to C55. With its tare weight below 3,900kg, K.SHG L is reported to allow higher payload and lower fuel consumption. Its design allows the safe and easy loading of containers with only four locks. K.SHG L also is said to be user-friendly when switching between 40’ and 45’ containers with the design that allows switching the positioning of front container locks that eliminates the need for an extendable gooseneck.

Multifunctional container chassis with novel octagonal central frame design, according to Kässbohrer, enables all welded components of the chassis to reduce all ancillary tension issues making the entire chassis as tension free as it gets, preventing permanent damage arising from regular operations that are carried out with the industry standard rectangular central frame design. Front, middle and rear extensions and carefully designed locking mechanisms provide the most user-friendly operation, even for the average driver.

The K.SHG AVMH can carry 1×20’ in the rear flush, 2×20’, 1×30’, 1×40’ ISO, 1×40’ HC, 1×45’ HC LT and 1×13.60 cargo box as well an option for 1×20’ in the middle with eight different loading positions.

Kässbohrer developed the K.SHF T for reliable tank container transportation. Made of high strength S700 MC steel, K.SHF T is reported to be ‘extremely robust’ but ‘eminently light’, with a tare weight of 3,100 kg, including aluminium parts and equipment. K.SHF T is designed to carry 20-25’ tank containers.

Kässbohrer claims to have the lightest swap bodies in the market.

The K.SWAU CL is engineered for the most economic and environmentally friendly intermodal transportation, according to the OEM. The K.SWAU CL has up to C45 transportation code and 34 euro pallet capacity and provides maximum load capacity with its lightest tare weight of 3,900 kg.

Equipped with the K-Fix Load Security System, K.SWAU CL provides 98 different strapping points, each with 2.5-tonne capacity on a special side rave design. K.SWAU CL chassis are also KTL coated to prolong the lifetime of the vehicle.

The K.SWAU C, a curtainsider swap body, is said to be the most economic and environmentally friendly of Kässbohrer’s intermodal trailer builds.

The K.SWAU C has up to C64 transportation code and 34 euro pallet capacity and provides maximum efficiency
with its 4,850kg tare weight. The robust design allows for stowing and freight opportunities and is also fitted with K-Fix Load Security System.

For just-in-time delivery challenges, Kässbohrer offers its mega curtainsider – the K.SCS M – which is equipped with patented multi-point lashing load securing system, K-Fix, comprising 236 holes in total with
each 2.5-tonne capacity to optimise loading and unloading operations. K.SCS M offers Load Security Certificate EN 12642 Code XL – VDI 2700 for all the roof lifting positions. Intermodal options include train loading brackets suitable for P400 classified e-f-g-i wagon types.

Kässbohrer also has a bespoke solution for the reliable transportation of coils. The K.SCC X+ features a strong and robust chassis, ranging from 900mm to 2,100mm in diameter with coil well lengths of 7,250 mm up to 9,060mm. This trailer is spec’d with a sliding roof with hydraulic roof lifting capabilities.

Loading security is also enhanced with K-Fix. K.SCC X+ offers Load Security Certificate EN 12642 Code XL – VDI 2700 for all the roof lifting positions. Intermodal options include train loading brackets suitable for P400 classified e-f-g-i wagon types.
