P&O Ferrymasters invests in Schmitz Cargobull telematics solution

P&O Ferrymasters has taken delivery of some 200 semi-trailers built by German OEM, Schmitz Cargobull.

The order included the 1,111th Schmitz Cargobull unit to be equipped with the company’s own TrailerConnect telematics system.

Specialising in the creation and supply of innovative and flexible supply chain solutions, P&O Ferrymasters said it would use the trailers across various applications and industries, including steel, automotive, chemicals, consumer goods, paper and recycling.

Of the 200 units, 75 are configured and equipped as ‘Coil’ versions, with 125 coming in a ‘Universal’ layout. All are intended for combined transport across road, rail and sea.

“As the P&O Ferrymasters trailers are primarily pulled by sub-contractors, the … company is especially interested in obtaining transparency about its semi-trailers and their loads, regardless of the [truck used],” Schmitz Cargobull explained.

“For this reason, the entire fleet has been equipped with Schmitz Cargobull’s TrailerConnect telematics system within the last two years.”

Bas Belder, Managing Director at P&O Ferrymasters, commented, “Our primary concern is to support our customers in their daily work, and to continue to consolidate our high customer loyalty over a number of years.

“Our focus is therefore on even greater improved efficiency in the planning and capacity utilisation of our fleet.”
