EU truck market stable in February

The EU market for new commercial vehicles has continued its positive start to 2017, according to February data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

Demand increased 2.8 per cent in February, totaling 164,788 units and was mostly driven by the Italian market, ACEA found, which posted over 20 per cent growth in both heavy and medium-duty vehicle registrations.

In the medium-duty category, 26,165 new trucks were registered, a more or less stable result (-0.1 per cent) when compared to February 2016.

The heavy truck segment above 16 tonnes – often used as an indicator for trailer sales – also showed modest growth of one per cent, with 21,531 new vehicles registered.

Most of the major EU markets contributed to this growth, although the UK market faced a downturn (-4.2 per cent).
