Dr Christian Wiehen, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Wabco, has been awarded the 2016 European Commercial Vehicle Safety Award at the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis (EVU) annual congress in Bratislava.
A jury of experts from the German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association (DEKRA) and the German Road Safety Council (DVR) presented the award to Wiehen for his lifetime achievement furthering commercial vehicle safety.
According to Wabco, Wiehen (pictured) was instrumental in the advancement of numerous safety technologies for trucks, buses and trailers, including Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Electronic Braking (EBS), Collision Mitigation, and Advanced Emergency Braking Systems, as well as Electronic Stability Control.
“Christian Wiehen is receiving the honour for his excellent engineering services in the field of driver assistance systems for commercial vehicles and commercial vehicle combinations, which have contributed to a significant improvement in active safety in road traffic in recent years in particular,” said Prof Egon-Christian von Glasner, President of the EVU.
“Dr Christian Wiehen has been at the forefront of technological innovation which has significantly improved the safety of commercial vehicles in Europe and across the world.
“It’s hard to imagine today’s intelligent safety systems on trucks and trailers without Dr Wiehen’s numerous contributions. In addition, he continues to pave the way for autonomous driving in the commercial vehicle industry.”
