Braking specialist, Knorr-Bremse, is partnering with UK-based telematics provider, Microlise, to bring a new type of modular telematics system to the European market.
Dubbed TruckServices ProFleet Connect, the new system is said to be compatible with any make of vehicle, explained Board Member, Dr Peter Laier, who is responsible for Knorr-Bremse’s Commercial Vehicle Systems division.
“In the future, the individual truck will increasingly become part of an overarching logistics system,” explained Board Member, Dr Peter Laier, who is responsible for Knorr-Bremse’s Commercial Vehicle Systems division,” he commented.
“Connectivity at multiple levels can lead to a marked improvement in the efficiency of each individual vehicle. With TruckServices ProFleet Connect, we are offering more than just a link between the vehicle and the fleet management system.
“We are delivering smart services which, based on the collected data, offer added value for fleet operators and drivers alike.”
According to Dr Laier, the basic system ensures that a vehicle operator can tell which route their trucks have taken and where they are at any given moment. It also allows for the evaluation of driving characteristics and enable performance-based driver training.
The basic product can be upgraded with six add-on packages, ranging from engine diagnostic to safety.
TruckServices ProFleet Connect will be launched in 2017 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, before being gradually rolled out across Europe in subsequent years.
The new product is part of Knorr-Bremse’s new TruckServices brand, which is meant to bring together the full range of the company’s aftermarket services to complement its activities in the original equipment sector.
