IAA: Kögel to reveal new lightweight model

German OEM Kögel has announced it will be presenting a new lightweight curtain-sider generation at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Germany next month.

Aptly named ‘Light Plus’, the new model can boast a payload-optimised and weight-optimised frame and body, Kögel said.

With a tare weight of 5,145kg in its standard version, Kögel said the new model can achieve a technical total weight of 39,000kg, with a fifth-wheel load of 12,000kg.

Thanks to a 60mm reduction of the frame neck height, the trailer also benefits from more usable internal height than the previous model.

“With the CO2 tax that will be introduced in 2020, and increasingly heavy tractor units, the focus is shifting more and more onto lightweight trailers”, commented Thomas Eschey, Managing Director of Production and Technology at Kögel.

“With the Kögel Light Plus we are offering our customers a trailer with a higher payload, lower operating costs, and reduced CO2-emissions as a result.”
