SAF-Holland enhances sustainability focus

SAF-Holland has launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign to address “future issues relating to people, energy and the environment”.

Titled We think ahead, the campaign will see SAF-Holland “take on global responsibility for active climate protection,” according to CEO, Detlef Borghardt.

“We want to show what we can achieve together [with] a more conscious approach to one another and our environment – not because we have to, but because it is a matter of serious concern to us.”

Borghardt said the We think ahead campaign will support the ‘Plant for the Planet’ association by donating some 80,000 trees, helping it save up to 1,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next two years.

As part of the project, the company has already switched over to energy-saving LED lighting at most of its plants, with the production halls for axles and suspension systems in Germany now also meeting the latest energy standards.

By digitising its spare parts catalogue, the company also avoided printing some 4,000 pages for each of the 13 cultural regions it is present in.

The campaign will also cover issues like sustainable packaging and include a review of supply chain wastage.

In a Human Resources context, SAF-Holland said it will further empower employees to make their own suggestions for improving internal processes and couple the process to a new bonus system.

New fruit stations throughout the business have also been installed.
