Eddie Stobart invests £12.6 million in SDC trailers

Eddie Stobart has placed an order for 600 curtain-siders worth £12.6 million (€16 million) with UK manufacturer SDC, as part of the company’s general fleet expansion.

The new trailers will be manufactured over a 12 month period at SDC’s production facilities in Antrim, Northern Ireland and Mansfield, England, with the first unit delivery in April 2016.

Executive Chairman of Eddie Stobart Limited, William Stobart, said, “We are expanding our fleet with 600 new curtain-siders to fulfil the growing demand from our customers in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

“We are continuously looking for ways to improve our operational efficiency, while reducing environmental impacts and SDC have worked with us to achieve this. They offer the best in terms of trailer utilisation, through flexibility in design and a very high quality of finished product. Our current fleet of trailers from SDC play a central role to the ongoing success of our operations, with minimal downtime and maintenance requirements.”

Managing Director at SDC Trailers, Mark Cuskeran, revealed that SDC has a long-established relationship with the logistics provider, reportedly building over 6,500 trailers for Eddie Stobart over the last 12 years.

“SDC have worked closely with Eddie Stobart over the years to design and build trailers that meet their specific transport requirements. As the market leader we strive to continuously improve our solutions and maximize customer return on investment over the trailer life.”

Cuskeran continued: “Our number one goal has always been to provide high quality, durable products. Coupled with our unrivalled customer service, these elements have allowed SDC to become the preferred supplier for leading transport and logistics operators like Eddie Stobart. I am delighted to secure the significant order for 600 new curtainsiders with Eddie Stobart and support them during a considerable fleet investment.”
