Idem to launch modular telematics system

BPW subsidiary Idem has launched a new, modular trailer telematics system called Cargofleet Trailer Gateway.

According to the German component supplier, the system is based on a type of on-board computer that processes data from so-called hubs, called the TC Gateway

Each hub, meanwhile, has an individual function – checking the temperature of the refrigerated box, for example, or the status of the diesel tank for the refrigerator – and can be flexibly connected to the Gateway.

In its basic form, Gateway functions include geo location, truck/ trailer coupling status and EBS data. However, additional hubs can be added to adapt the range of functions, according to Idem.

To provide a better overview, the hubs are divided into three different functional areas – efficiency hubs such as tyre pressure monitoring, safety hubs such as door sensor monitoring, and quality hubs, which include an EN 12830-certified temperature recorder, for example.

“With our Cargofleet Trailer Gateway modular system, the initial investment for hauliers remains low,” Thomas Piller, Managing Director of Idem telematics, commented on the launch.

“They receive information on the location, coupling status and EBS data of their vehicles. If they want to use additional functions at a later date, they can add them at any time after installing the appropriate hub.”
