Logistics company P&O Ferrymasters has fitted a large part of its trailer fleet with Schmitz Cargobull's TrailerConnect telematics system.
In addition to 400 new vehicles being produced in Schmitz Cargobull’s Altenberge facility, 300 vehicles from the existing trailer fleet of over 1,500 units will also be fitted with the trailer telematics system.
According to Schmitz Cargobull, the TrailerConnect provides transparency over its vehicles and their loads independently of the truck, which was of particular interest to P&O Ferrymasters as sub-contractors haul many of its trailers.
“First and foremost, we believe that we will achieve an even greater improvement in efficiency in the planning and capacity utilisation of our fleet,” said Bas Belder, Managing Director of P&O Ferrymasters.
According to Schmitz Cargobull, the provision of real-time telematics data through TrailerConnect is of great importance to P&O Ferrymasters when processing its 2,000 transport contracts.
“For us, rapid information, high transparency and preventive customer integration are the most important functions that we can derive from the trailer telematics system,” said Belder.
P&O Ferrymasters is reportedly integrating the telematics data into its own 'Transport Management System' to create a far-reaching link to existing processes.
“It is important for us to make work easier for our customers with the best technical telematics solutions and the associated service provisions,” said Karl Heinz Neu, Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull Telematics.
The new P&O Ferrymasters curtain-siders ordered from the Schmitz Cargobull's S.CS programme were reportedly fitted with special ferry equipment and various load securing components, with the first vehicle from the order now delivered.
