US trailer manufacturer Doonan Specialized Trailer has announced the launch of a new coil hauler model for the North American market.
According to Doonan, the new trailer was developed specifically for hauling steel coils ‘shotgun style’ with the eye of the coil facing forward, recessed inside a centre well, with recessed concave beams to safely secure the coil load.
The company explained that coils are generally “tough to haul”because of their concentrated weight in one small area on the trailer, so Doonan has engineered the coil well to transfer more weight onto the trailer axles.
The new flatbed model's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 98,000lbs (ca. 4.4 tonnes), based on a tri-axle layout with disc brakes.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the design and weight this trailer can hold,” stated Mike Gordy, CoManager Operations, Doonan.
“This new specialty trailer demonstrates our commitment and focus on taking our products to the next level, and providing customers with innovative solutions that lead the industry.”
