Schenker eyeing parcel delivery market

Schenker Logistics is planning to join the European parcel delivery market in 2016, according to German newspaper, Handelsblatt.

To gain access to the infrastructure needed for the move, Schenker is reportedly preparing a deal with GLS, one of the largest parcel service providers in Europe.

According to Handelsblatt, Europe’s booming e-commerce market is the main reason for Schenker’s expansion, with officials hoping the deal will fuel the company's future development.

By focusing on corporate customers that regularly send freight to private households, the company apparently hopes to add revenue “in the nine digit space” to its existing business.

While the service will be rolled out in Germany first, a Europe-wide launch is reportedly already in the planning stages.
