UK commercial vehicle market going strong

UK commercial vehicle manufacturing in February grew 33.7 per cent year-on-year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

SMMT figures showed 8,344 units manufactured in February and a total of 13,767 in 2015, making for a 6.5 per cent upturn over the first two months of the year.

“The sector’s encouraging performance has been driven by demand from both domestic and export markets, up 56.1 per cent and 13.4 per cent respectively, year-on-year,” said SMMT Chief Executive, Mike Hawes.

“The surge in output from UK commercial vehicle manufacturers in February has put the sector on a strong footing for the year ahead.

“Demand from the UK’s prospering domestic market is driving growth, buoyed by a strong appetite from overseas buyers, with exports in February up by more than 13 per cent on the same month last year.”
