Utility Plant receives 2014 Manufacturer of the Year Award

US trailer manufacturer Utility has announced that its Glade Spring, Virginia manufacturing plant has received the 2014 Manufacturer of the Year Award from Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing (SVAM).

According to Utility, the Manufacturer of the Year Award seeks to highlight a company that has gone above and beyond in the categories of innovation, corporate citizenship and advocacy.

David Matlock, Vice President of Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) nominated the Virginian plant for their partnership, created to educate students and close the skills gap that exists for regional manufacturers.

Utility report that SVAM selected it to win the award for its positive impact on the quality of life in Virginia, including quality employee benefits, its role in American Cancer Society’s ‘Relay for Life’ and its involvement in ‘Dress for Success’ – a program to help secure clothes for underprivileged high school seniors entering the manufacturing field.

“We are honored to receive this award from SVAM,” said Sam Cassell, Plant Manager for Utility’s Glade Spring manufacturing plant.
